Mighty Africa UK Online Slot

We're summoned to the plains of Africa to play this January 2019 release from Playson, which has both feet firmly planted in the ‘animals and nature' genre of online slot games. We've seen some incredible slots released over the course of the past couple of years which have made good use of Africa's imagery, with Great Rhino, Hot Safari, and Stampede, in particular, all proving to be very popular with Money Reels players. Playson hopes that Mighty Africa will appeal to the same players, and reach the same heights. So what have they done to make their creation stand out from among the high number of online slots which occupy the same territory?

Play Mighty Africa Mobile Slot

For a start, this is a big slot game. Mighty Africa has six reels, all of which contain four rows. That's a lot of space for symbols, and of course, a lot of space to create winning combinations. There are 4096 ways to win here in total, which should mean that smaller wins happen regularly. With an RTP of 95.10% it's perhaps a tiny bit less generous than some of its competition, but not by such a factor that it should become noticeable.

The slot looks great. The plains of the savannah have been well-realized, with burnt-orange grass and the dry, arid desert stretching away beneath a cloudless sky, and the sandy-yellow reels and rows hanging in the air in a golden frame. This is a graphically pleasing slot with some well-drawn symbols which look great in HD. It doesn't boast as much animation or movement as some of the more cinematic video slots, but it doesn't really need to. It's attractively designed, and offers gameplay which is surprisingly straightforward for such a vast layout.

If we turn our attention to the reels, we'll find our old friends the playing card symbols are here to occupy the lower values. They're made up of 9 through to A, but they're far less interesting than the cast of wild safari animals which exist above them. There's a crocodile, a big cat which is either a cheetah or a jaguar, a rhino, a buffalo and an elephant. The elephant is the most valuable symbol in the base game. It's a little surprising not to find a lion here, but then lions appear in almost all safari-themed online slots, so perhaps this is Playson trying to be different.

In keeping with the comparative simplicity of the presentation, the wild and scatter symbols in this slot are labeled ‘Wild' and ‘Scatter' respectively, with no additional visual flair. As you're probably accustomed to if you play online slot games regularly, the wild will replace everything apart from the scatter to make winning lines for you. It won't appear on your first reel, but can show up anywhere else. The scatter has implications for the bonus features…but so does the wild!

Mighty Africa Developer - Playson

Malta's Playson has been actively producing online slot games since 2012, but they've really ramped up their efforts since 2015, which is when they were awarded a license to serve the UK online slots market for the first time. In less than ten years they've gone from a fresh-faced startup company to a globally prominent brand, with offices in several major gaming territories and hundreds of employees within those offices.

They're especially well known for serving players who have traditional tastes. Many of their best-known slots, such as 100 Joker Staxx online slot and Imperial Fruits: 5 Lines are modern-day takes on old fruit machines, with few bells and whistles and an emphasis on classic gameplay. They excel at serving that market, but Safari King isn't the first time they've tried something a little different. When they released the Egyptian-themed Legend of Cleopatra slot game, they stunned us with one of the most complex and layered online slot games we've ever seen.

We don’t expect Playson to stop making traditionally-themed slots any time soon, but if this January 2019 release was a statement of intent about showing us what else they can do, we’re excited to see how they follow it up.

Wild Africa Slot Bonus Features

There’s only one bonus feature in Mighty Africa, but it makes use of both of the slot’s special symbols to excellent effect. You need to land multiples of the scatter symbols to get things started - and with six reels to play with, there’s a lot of space to do it.

Free Spins are the order of the day here, and the more scatter symbols you begin the round with, the higher your chances of success. For three of them, you’ll get eight free spins. Four scatter symbols are worth fifteen spins, five are worth twenty-five, and if you’re lucky enough to land a scatter symbol on all six reels at once you’ll get a massive fifty free spins, and you’re almost certain of a big win. Any two or more scatters found during free spins will add additional free spins to your round, up to a maximum of 100 in any one instance.

While the free spins are active, so is the Split Wild. With this feature, each time a wild lands it will split into two or possibly even three wilds. They only occupy one space on the reels, but are counted as double or treble symbols. Because of that, the number of potential ways to win during free spins creeps all the way up to 31,104. If you're good with numbers, you may have worked out that it's therefore possible to create winning lines with 18 wilds, which would be worth 8,214x your line bet.

Payouts in the base game aren't all that impressive, so it's the free spins feature that makes Wild Africa worth playing. It's a very solid offering from Playson, who is well known for traditional online slots. This release sees them step outside their comfort zone a little, and we're pleased to see it happen.
